Savannah Kooyman
MS, MS, CSNC
Founder of Savvy Performance, former UCLA gymnast, and NCAA National Champion.
Hi, I’m Savannah Kooyman—founder of Savvy Performance, former UCLA gymnast, and NCAA National Champion Team Member.
With over twenty years of experience in the sport, I’ve lived the highs and challenges of competitive gymnastics firsthand. My journey inspired a deep passion for helping the next generation of gymnasts not only perform at their best—but also fuel and train in a way that supports long-term success and well-being.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UCLA, along with double Master’s degrees in Nutrition Science and Exercise Physiology from San Diego State University. I’m also a certified sports nutritionist, specializing in performance fueling for young athletes.
Professionally, I’ve worked with organizations like Team USA Rugby, UCSD Athletics, UCLA Athletics, and have coached and supported hundreds of gymnasts across the country. I combine my background in elite athletics with evidence-based sports nutrition and coaching to deliver personalized, empowering support.
At the core of it all: I’m here to help gymnasts feel strong, confident, and unstoppable.
Why I got into sports nutrition
As a young gymnast, I didn’t realize I was under-fueled—until my body started breaking down. I suffered from recurring injuries, multiple stress fractures, delayed puberty, and stunted growth. Despite seeing doctors, no one ever pointed out that I wasn’t eating enough to support the demands of my training. Looking back, so much of it could have been prevented with the right nutrition guidance.
It wasn’t until I got to college that everything changed. For the first time, I had access to a sports dietitian. With proper fueling strategies, I felt the difference immediately—more energy throughout the day, better focus in school, fewer aches and pains, and peak performance in the gym. That’s when I hit my career highs and started truly enjoying the sport again.
That experience opened my eyes to just how powerful and essential nutrition is for athletes. It also made me realize how many young gymnasts are still in the dark—just like I was. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping athletes learn how to fuel their bodies with confidence, strength, and purpose. My goal is to be the resource I wish I had growing up.
